Your XOIP fax number should pick up faxes from any other fax machine but faxing is not as straightforward as it used to be. Fax was designed to run over physical (circuit-switched) voice channels but most telecom lines nowadays break the signal up in data packages. It often takes a few retries to set up a fax connection due to packet loss or protocol mismatches and many attempts don’t succeed at all. XOIP deploys different protocols and/or network routes to increase the chances of success but we still cannot guarantee a 100% succes rate. Should you experience problems please with receiving faxes please contact us at [email protected] so we can have a look at your specific situation.
FAQ Receiving faxes
You can only receive faxes as PDF files. We discontinued our support for TIFF.
It may happen that your XOIP number fails to pick up faxes from a specific sender. Most of the time this is due to a fax protocol mismatch beween the sending fax and your XOIP number. XOIP can force your number to answer with the right protocol but this may negatively affect incoming faxes from other senders. If you experience problems with incoming faxes from certain numbers, pls contact us at [email protected] so we can have a look at your situation.
Existing XOIP numbers that have fax detection can continue to use this feature but we have switched off fax detection for new sign ups and subscriptions. New XOIP numbers can be either used for fax or for voice, not for both. Fax numbers can also not be turned into voice numbers anymore, or vice versa.
